

Larry Hansgen was born November 3, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from Northland High School in Columbus he attended Bowling Green State University, from which he graduated in March of 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude, majoring in Radio-TV-Film and German. As part of his German studies, he spent his sophomore year studying in Salzburg, Austria.
Upon graduation from Bowling Green, Larry first worked at WNKO-FM in Newark and then moved to WBNO-FM in Bryan, Ohio. In March of 1981 Larry Hansgen joined the staff of WHIO in Dayton, Ohio as staff announcer, working overnights. Within six months he was promoted to Sports Director and in 1982 became the play-by-play voice of University of Dayton basketball, adding football play-by-play duties as well in 1988. Larry took on additional duties as Assistant Program Director in 1997 and was promoted to Program Director in 1998. In December of 2003, he returned to a full-time on-air position hosting Miami Valley’s Morning News while continuing to broadcast Flyer football and basketball.
In 1994 and 1995 Larry coordinated an exchange program through the Friendship Force whereby Russian broadcasters spent time at WHIO, and Larry visited Russia for two weeks to work with a station in Nizhny Novgorod.
He is active in the community with the Huesman Heart Foundation, is a member of St. Francis of Assissi Church, and is the current Vice-President and long-time member of the Dayton Agonis Club.
Larry and his wife, Laura, live in Centerville with their children Alex (born 1995) and Andrea (born 1997). An older daughter, Lauren, is attending Ohio State University in Columbus and is scheduled to graduate in the summer of 2005.
